Today we're announcing the cast of 4 upcoming YV shows. John Heffernan and Anna Maxwell Martin lead the cast of Macbeth while Zubin Varla and Paul Ready join Romola Garai in Measure for Measure. Macbeth

John Heffernan makes his Young Vic debut in Macbeth. His previous theatre credits include: Oppenheimer (RSC/West End); Edward II, She Stoops to Conquer, Emperor and Galilean, After the Dance, The Habit of Art, (National); King Lear, The Seagull, Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet (RSC); Love and Information (Royal Court); The Physicists (Donmar Warehouse); The Last of the Duchess (Hampstead); Richard II (Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory, Bristol); Love, Love, Love (Paines Plough); and The Hothouse and Carrie’s War (West End). Film credits include: Eye in the Sky and Having You. Television credits include: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, Ripper Street, Sons of Liberty, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, Outlander, Foyle’s War, Love and Marriage, The Hollow Crown and The Shadow Line. Later this year John will be seen in Dickensian (BBC) and Luther (BBC).
Anna Maxwell Martin makes her Young Vic debut. Her previous theatre credits include: Di and Viv and Rose (Hampstead); Measure for Measure (Almeida); The Female Species (Vaudeville); Cabaret (Lyric); The Entertainer, Dumb Show (Royal Court); His Dark Materials, Honour, Three Sisters, The Coast of Utopia (National Theatre) and The Little Foxes (Donmar Warehouse). Her film work includes: The Alan Partridge Movie, Philomena, Becoming Jane, The Other Man, Enduring Love, and The Hours. Television credits include: Midwinter of the Spirit, And Then There Were None, The Frankenstein Chronicles, Death Comes to Pemberley, The Accused, The Bletchley Circle, The Nightwatch, South Riding (BAFTA Award nominated), Freefall, Poppy Shakespeare (BAFTA Award for Best Actress), White Girl, Wind in the Willows, Bleak House, for which she won the Bafta Award for Best Actress, Dr. Who and North and South.

Measure for Measure

Romola Garai makes her Young Vic debut. Romola’s previous theatre work includes Indian Ink (Roundabout, New York); The Village Bike (Royal Court); Three Sisters (Lyric Hammersmith); King Lear/The Seagull (RSC); and Calico (West End) for which she was nominated for Most Promising Newcomer at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Her film work includes Atonement, for which she was nominated for the Best Actress Award at the Evening Standard British Film Awards, One Day, I Capture the Castle, Last Days on Mars, Angel, for which she won Lumiere Award nomination for Most Promising New Actress, Scoop, Amazing Grace and As You Like it. Her television credits include The Hour (Golden Globe nominated), The Crimson Petal and the White (BAFTA nominated) and Emma (Golden Globe nominated). In 2015 Romola will be appearing in Dominion and Suffragette and has just finished filming Churchill's Secret.
Zubin Varla returns to the Young Vic for the first time since his appearance in The Changeling in 2012. Other theatre credits include: Dara, The Enchantment, Attempts on Her Life, Cyrano de Bergerac (National); Two Gentlemen of Verona, Midnight’s Children, The Tempest, Bartholomew Fair, Romeo & Juliet (RSC); Twelfth Night (Donmar in the West End); Paradise Regained (Royal Court); Jesus Christ Superstar, Beautiful Thing (West End); A Connecticut Yankee in the Court of King Arthur, Lady Be Good (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre); Antigone (Old Vic); Amadeus (City of London Sinfonia tour). Television credits include: Our Girl, Strike Back, Little Dorrit, Silent Witness, Spooks. Film credits include: Mad, Sad and Bad and Jacob. Zubin has recorded with Nitin Sawhney on his album Human and plays with the Bergonzi Quartet.
Paul Ready makes his Young Vic debut in Measure for Measure. His previous theatre credits include: Black Comedy (Chichester Festival); Much Ado About Nothing (Royal Exchange); Terrorism, In the Republic of Happiness, Wastwater, Forty Winks, Black Milk, Crazyblackmuthafuckingself (Royal Court); Noises Off (Old Vic; Novello); Mother Clapps Molly House, A Woman Killed with Kindness, London Assurance, Time & the Conways, Major Barbara, St Joan, Attempts on her Life, Waves (National); Love’s Labours Lost (Globe & US Tour); Romance (Almeida) and World Music (Donmar and Sheffield Crucible). His film credits include: Private Peaceful, Angels and Insects, Maybe Baby, Dresden and Pierrepoint. For television, his credits include: Virtuoso, Cuffs, Utopia, Ripper Street, The Tunnel, Trial and Retribution and Pulling.
Also with: Romola Garai leads the cast as Isabella with Paul Ready as Angelo and Zubin Varla as Duke Vincentio. Emily Barclay was last seen at the Young Vic in Three Sisters. Her other theatre credits include: Strange Interlude, The Seagull, That Face, Gethsemene, Hamlet (Belvoir, Sydney); This is Our Youth (Sydney Opera House) and The Importance of Being Earnest (Melbourne Theatre Company). Her film credits include: The Light Between Oceans, Weekender, Mr Pip, Love Birds, Lou, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’hoole, Piece of My Heart (for which she won the New Zealand screen award for best actress), Prime Mover, Surburban Mayhem (for which she won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Lead Actress in Film and the Inside Film Award for Best Actress), Cockle and In My Father’s Den (for which she won the British Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer and the New Zealand Screen Award for Best Actor). Television credits include: Please Like Me, Lowdown, Kidnapped, Glitch and The Silence (for which she won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Drama).
Sam Troughton returns to the Young Vic for the first time since his appearance in Mike Bartlett’s Bull, which enjoyed runs in both Sheffield and New York. His other theatre credits include: Tuzenbach in Three Sisters (Young Vic); King Lear (National); Mint, Death Tax, The President Has Come to See You, Love Love Love (Royal Court); A Streetcar Named Desire (Liverpool Playhouse); Morte D’Arthur, Romeo & Juliet, The Grain Store, Julius Caesar, The Winter’s Tale, Richard III, Henry VI Part III, Henry VI Part II, Henry VI Part I and Taming of the Shrew (RSC). His film credits include: Spirit Trap, Alien Vs Predator, Vera Drake and Sylvia. For television, his credits include: Hinterland II, Jekyll and Hyde, Under Milkwood, D-Day: Last Letters Home, Midsomer Murders and Parades End.
