Philipe Rodolphe, who has sadly died at the age of 95, will be remembered fondly by generations of audiences attending the Young Vic as the genial Head of the Box Office in The Cut. He is the last of a group of staff members who had worked at the theatre from the earliest days, including Maureen Fawsitt, Vi Marriott and Donald Sartain who have all left us in the last couple of years.
Despite his outward bonhomie, he was a very private man, and few people knew that he was Donald's life partner for 50 years. Born in Mauritius he was originally married and had a daughter Arianne with whom he continued to retain a loving relationship. However, meeting Donald in 1980 changed his life and very soon he moved to the UK and he and Donald moved in together in their home in Hounslow. He was always ready with a joke or a quip, never forgot his many friends or family and was a genial and generous host.
He will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of working with him and for the happy welcome he gave to all who went to visit them at their home.
