Taking Part productions made for, with, or by the local community.
Our Neighbourhood Theatre and Participation strands put on large-scale productions with members of the local community. These shows are produced by a professional creative and production team.
In the 25th anniversary year of Taking Part, we created a magical, multi-disciplinary performance, Of The Cut, in collaboration with TEA films. This production included 30 participants from all three Taking Part strands. You can watch the trailer below.
Our productions have ranged from a large-scale live theatre project turned three short films (TWENTY TWENTY), to a sharing of monologues written by local Southwark and Lambeth writers (Neighbourhood Voices) to an animated digital project (Under My Barbie Duvet) as well as creative responses to mainstage productions (The American Dream 2.0).
Often, we invite our local community to be part of our main stage productions. In his debut production as Artistic Director, Kwame Kwei-Armah's Twelfth Night featured a community cast of over 60 people.

These have ranged from community opera (The Human Comedy), to an outside street carnival production (Festa), to working with local community groups, including people in recovery (The Sound of Yellow), female, unpaid carers (Turning a Little Further) and sex workers (The Brolly Project).
