Writer
Born in 1972 in Munich, Marius von Mayenburg studied medieval literature in Munich and Berlin and from 1994 until 1998 playwriting at the Berlin University of the Arts. In 1998 he began a collaboration with Thomas Ostermeier at Deutsches Theater in Berlin that continued, from 1999, at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, Berlin. He was awarded several prizes for his first play Fireface (1997).
As Playwright: The Ugly One, The Stone, Martyr, and Plastic. These plays have been translated into over 30 languages and performed both in Germany and abroad.
As Director: Since 2009 Marius von Mayenburg has regularly directed at the Schaubühne in Berlin and also in other cities in Germany and other countries. His productions include plays by William Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Stefano Massini, Maja Zade, Alan Ayckbourn, and his own work.
As Translator: Hamlet, Othello, Measure for Measure and Richard III, for Thomas Ostermeier at the Schaubühne Berlin. For his own productions he translated Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night and Romeo and Juliet. His work as a translator also includes contemporary plays by Sarah Kane, Martin Crimp and Richard Dresser.

Translator
Maja Zade is a playwright, translator and head of dramaturgy at the Schaubühne Berlin, where she has worked with directors such as Thomas Ostermeier, Ivo van Hove, Luk Perceval, Benedict Andrews and Marius von Mayenburg. Her plays have been performed in Germany and abroad, and her latest play, spinne (spider), will open at the Schaubühne in May 2024.

Director
Patrick Marber was born in London in 1964. He is a playwright, screenwriter, director and occasional actor. His work has won Evening Standard, Olivier, Time Out, New York and London Critics’ Circle and Writers’ Guild Awards and received BAFTA, British Comedy and Royal Television Society Awards. His screenplays have been nominated for Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Awards. He received the British Independent Film Award for Notes on a Scandal. His second play, Closer, has been produced in more than 200 cities across the world. He directed the premiere of Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt at the Wyndham’s Theatre which won the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2020. It opened on Broadway in October 2022 and in June 2023 Patrick won the Tony Award for best Director of a Play and the Outer Critics Circle Award for outstanding Director of a Play. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and an Honorary Fellow of St Catherine’s College, Oxford.
